5 Days Morocco Desert Trip

Trip Overview

Five days is the sweet spot.

Enough time to see Marrakech properly, cross the desert without rushing, spend a full night under the Sahara stars and come back to the city with a free day to wander the medina, find a rooftop cafe and buy things you definitely do not need from the souks.

This is the trip most student groups come back from saying they should have booked more days. It is that good.

Itinerary

You arrive in Marrakech and your guide is waiting. After settling in, your group heads out for a guided tour of the medina, the souks, Jemaa el-Fna square, the chaotic beautiful energy of a city that operates on its own rules. The evening ends with a group dinner before the journey to the desert begins tomorrow.

Early morning departure from Marrakech heading south. The road takes you through dramatic mountain passes, ancient kasbahs and some of the most cinematic landscapes in North Africa.

Along the way your group stops at the Monkey Fingers rock formations in the Dades Gorges for a 30-minute walk through a canyon that looks like it was designed for a film set. Because it basically was.

Dinner and overnight in Dades Valley, surrounded by canyon walls and complete silence.

The day everything changes.

Morning starts with a walk through Todgha Gorge, a spectacular natural canyon with walls rising hundreds of metres above you on both sides. Thirty minutes walking through it in the cool morning air before the road opens up completely toward the Sahara.

You arrive at the dunes in the late afternoon, perfectly timed for what comes next. Choose your ride into the camp: camel or 4×4. Either way you arrive as the sun drops and the dunes turn from gold to deep red.

Sunset over the Sahara. Dinner at camp. Music around the fire. Your group, the desert, and a sky so full of stars you will spend ten minutes just standing there looking up.

Both our basic and luxury desert camps are fully air-conditioned. Sandboarding available in the evening or at sunrise.

Wake up before sunrise. Walk up the dunes. Watch the Sahara go from black to gold in twenty minutes. It is the quietest and most extraordinary moment of the whole trip.

After breakfast your group drives back toward Marrakech passing through Ouarzazate, the cinema city of Morocco, where some of the world’s biggest productions have been filmed. A stop here before continuing back to Marrakech.

You arrive in Marrakech in the evening. Overnight in the city or you can change plans ad overnight in Ouarzazte city.

Your last day belongs to you.

Wander the medina. Get lost in the souks. Find a rooftop cafe and do absolutely nothing for a while. Bargain for things, eat things, see things. Marrakech on your own terms is a completely different experience from day one and most groups wish they had more time here.

Departure from Marrakech.

Desert days get hot, but nights in the camp get surprisingly cold, so bring layers. A scarf or light headwrap helps with wind and sand, plus sunscreen and comfortable shoes for walking on sand and rock.

This 5-day, 4-night trip starts at €250 per person for our budget plan, comfy, clean stays with everything you need. Reach out with your group size and dates for an exact quote.

Fall and spring are the best times to visit, warm days and comfortable nights. Summer runs hot, but our accommodations and vehicles are air conditioned, so you’re never stuck sweating it out. Winter nights get cold, so pack warm layers, but that’s part of the charm, there’s nothing like wrapping up by the campfire under a clear desert sky.

We actually own our own transportation company, so it’s not some random driver you’ve never met. Small groups ride in a Toyota Prado, bigger groups get a Mercedes Vito van or Sprinter minibus, and for groups over 20 we bring in a full-size bus. Everything is clean, comfortable, and driven by drivers we know and trust.

Yes, we can include or exclude activities to suit what you and  your group like.

It’s a completely different experience from the city or the coast, vast dunes, Berber camps, nights under the stars. If you have the time, pairing it with Marrakech or the coast is the best way to see more than one side of the country.

Yes, this trip can be extended to more days or shortened to fit your schedule. It also pairs well with our desert or coast trips if you or your group wants to add more of Morocco, or both, for the full experience.
